- In a small bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter and chopped fresh sage. Stir until the mixture is well blended and fragrant.
- Thinly slice your apple and gouda cheese, creating layers for your sandwich.
- Generously coat one side of each slice of whole grain bread with the sage butter mixture.
- On the unbuttered side of two slices, layer the apple slices, gouda cheese, and optional turkey bacon.
- Place the other slices of bread on top, buttered side out, creating a sandwich.
Cooking
- Heat a skillet over medium heat and place the sandwich in the skillet.
