Ingredients
  

Fruit Filling
  • 4 pieces apples (peeled, cored, and sliced 1/3 to 1/2 inch thick) Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for a deeper flavor.
  • 1.5 cups blueberries Frozen blueberries can be used; toss in flour to prevent excess water.
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon Experiment with other spices for variation.
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons butter (cut into small pieces)
Crumble Topping
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 stick butter (room temperature)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease a small baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, combine the apples, blueberries, 2 tablespoons of flour, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  3. Once mixed, pour the fruit mixture into the greased baking dish and sprinkle the small pieces of butter evenly over the top.
Crumble Preparation
  1. To make the crumble topping, mix together the flour, brown sugar, butter, and salt until it reaches a wet sandy texture.
  2. Crumble this mixture evenly over the blueberry apple filling.
Baking
  1. Bake for 40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the fruit mixture is bubbling up the sides.
  2. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
