Method
- Pat the shrimp dry, then season with paprika, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Toss gently until every shrimp is evenly coated.
- Heat the olive oil and 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and sear for 1 to 2 minutes per side until golden and nearly cooked through. Transfer the shrimp to a plate.
- Add the remaining 2 tablespoons butter to the same skillet. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
- Pour in the chicken broth and heavy cream. Stir well and let the creamy garlic sauce simmer gently for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Stir in the Parmesan cheese and lemon juice. Continue cooking gently until the Parmesan melts and the sauce becomes smooth, creamy, and slightly thickened.
- Return the shrimp to the skillet and gently coat them in the creamy garlic Parmesan sauce. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes, just until the shrimp are fully cooked and tender.
- Toast the baguette or French bread slices until crisp and golden.
- Sprinkle the garlic Parmesan shrimp with fresh parsley and a few extra red pepper flakes. Serve immediately with the warm toasted bread.
Notes
Pat the shrimp dry before seasoning so they sear instead of steaming.
Do not fully cook the shrimp during the first sear because they will finish cooking in the sauce.
Use freshly grated Parmesan for the smoothest sauce.
Keep the cream sauce at a gentle simmer to reduce the chance of separation.
Toast the bread while the sauce simmers so everything is ready to serve hot at the same time.
Frozen shrimp may be used if fully thawed and patted dry before cooking.
Half-and-half may be substituted for heavy cream, though the finished sauce will be thinner and less rich.
The shrimp and sauce may also be served over pasta for a heartier meal.
