  • 1 block firm tofu Press to remove moisture
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup Maple syrup can be used for a vegan option
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Tamari can be used for gluten-free
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch For coating the tofu
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For frying
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Green onions for garnish (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Press the tofu for at least 15 minutes to remove excess moisture. Cut into bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a bowl, mix honey (or maple syrup), soy sauce, and minced garlic.
  3. Toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
Cooking
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add tofu cubes and cook until golden and crispy on all sides.
  2. Pour the honey garlic mixture over the tofu, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  3. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serving
  1. Serve hot, garnished with green onions if desired.

Notes

Make sure to press the tofu well to remove as much moisture as possible to help it get crispy. Adjust the sweetness of the sauce by using less honey or maple syrup. For an extra kick, add red pepper flakes to the sauce.
