Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • to taste Salt and pepper
  • Oil for frying Use oil with a high smoke point like vegetable, canola, or peanut oil.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Dredge the onion slices in the flour mixture until well coated.
  4. Dip the coated onion slices in grated Parmesan cheese.
  5. Carefully place the coated onion slices in the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Remove the chips from the oil and drain on paper towels.
Serving
  1. Serve warm as is, or pair with your favorite dips like sour cream or ranch dressing.
  2. These chips also make a great side dish for sandwiches or burgers.
Storage
  1. If you have any leftover chips, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for a couple of days.
  2. Re-crisp in the oven for a few minutes before serving again.

Notes

For extra crispy chips, let the coated onion slices sit for a few minutes before frying. Ensure oil is at the right temperature; too hot will burn the chips, and too cool will make them soggy. Experiment with different seasonings to customize the flavor.
