Preparation
- Core, peel, and cut the apples into about 1-inch pieces.
- Add the apples and sugar (less sugar if apples are sweet) to a 6-quart crockpot.
- Add the cinnamon if desired.
- Cover and cook the apples on LOW heat for 6 hours.
- For chunky applesauce, gently break up the apples with a potato masher. For smoother applesauce, blend with an immersion blender.
- Transfer the applesauce to an airtight container and refrigerate overnight before eating.
Notes
Store the applesauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. It freezes well for longer storage. To serve, enjoy warm or cold as a snack or side dish with pork or chicken. It can also be added to pancakes or yogurt.
