Ingredients

  • 120 g salmon fillet
  • 6 shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup green beans
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, to taste
  • Lemon slices, for serving
  • Chili flakes, to taste
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • Tongs or fish spatula
  • Saucepan or microwave-safe bowl For warming the mashed potatoes
  • Small pot or steamer For cooking the green beans
  • Serving plate

Method

  1. Pat the salmon dry and season both sides with salt and black pepper. Add a small pinch of chili flakes if you like a little heat.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the salmon and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes on the first side. Flip and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes, until golden and cooked through. Transfer to a plate.
  3. Reduce the heat to medium and add the butter and minced garlic to the same skillet. Cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Add the shrimp and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until pink and opaque.
  4. Warm the mashed potatoes until creamy and hot. Cook or steam the green beans until tender but still slightly crisp, then season with salt and black pepper.
  5. Spoon the creamy mashed potatoes onto the plate and arrange the green beans alongside them. Add the seared salmon and pile the garlic butter shrimp over the potatoes.
  6. Spoon any remaining garlic butter from the skillet over the salmon and shrimp. Finish with fresh parsley, chili flakes, and lemon slices. Serve immediately while everything is warm.

Notes

Pat the salmon dry before seasoning so it develops a better golden crust.
Cook the salmon until golden and cooked through, then remove it before making the garlic butter shrimp.
Reduce the skillet heat before adding the butter and garlic so the garlic does not burn.
Cook the shrimp only until pink and opaque to keep them tender.
Keep the green beans slightly crisp for the best texture.
Serve immediately while the salmon, shrimp, mashed potatoes, and green beans are warm.
