Method
- Season the shrimp with smoked paprika, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Heat the olive oil and 1 tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add the smoked beef sausage and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until nicely browned. Remove and set aside.
- Add 2 tbsp butter to the same skillet. Add the onion, bell pepper, and cabbage. Cook for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and lightly browned.
- Stir in the minced garlic, onion powder, and red pepper flakes if using. Cook for about 1 minute, until fragrant.
- Push the cabbage mixture to one side of the skillet and add the remaining 1 tbsp butter. Add the seasoned shrimp and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until pink, opaque, and cooked through.
- Return the browned beef sausage to the skillet. Toss the shrimp, sausage, and cabbage together until everything is coated in the buttery seasonings.
- Drizzle with lemon juice and sprinkle with fresh parsley. Cook for another 1 to 2 minutes, then serve hot. This garlic butter shrimp skillet makes an easy seafood dinner with smoky sausage and tender cabbage in every bite.
Notes
Brown the smoked beef sausage well before removing it from the skillet to build extra flavor.
Cook the cabbage until tender and lightly browned rather than completely soft for better texture.
Add the garlic near the end of cooking the vegetables so it becomes fragrant without burning.
Push the cabbage mixture to one side of the skillet before cooking the shrimp so the shrimp can make direct contact with the hot pan.
Cook the shrimp only until pink, opaque, and cooked through to keep them tender.
Return the sausage at the end and toss everything together so the buttery seasonings coat the entire skillet.
Finish with lemon juice and parsley just before serving.
