  • 8 slices slices of bread Use day-old bread for better texture.
  • 6 large large eggs
  • 2 cups milk Whole or low-fat milk works well.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup cheese (such as cheddar or Gruyere) Feel free to use your favorite cheese.
  • 1 cup cooked and crumbled bacon or sausage
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a casserole dish.
  3. Cut the bread into cubes and layer it in the bottom of the dish.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, salt, and pepper.
  5. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, making sure all pieces are soaked.
  6. Sprinkle cheese, bacon or sausage, and green onions on top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the casserole is set and lightly browned.
  2. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with fresh fruit, yogurt, or a light salad. Perfect for brunch or gatherings. For storage, keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days.
